The nook and me.

My wonderful love of my life bought me a nook, and it just arrived today. It came is a pretty package, which was a bit difficult to extract from, but finally it did release the precious nook into my hands.

The first thing I did after registering it to my account was to check to see if the firmware was up to date. It wasn’t, so I let it download the update and install it while letting it charge up a bit, since the battery was at around 50% when I turned it on.

After struggling getting in the key for the wireless at her place, I blame that on my fat fingers, it’s a pain to enter a many character, number & symbol security key on anything less than a real keyboard.

I’ve been using Calibre to manage my ebook collection, so it was nice when I plugged in my nook, and Calibre automatically detected it. When I told Calibre to copy the books over to the nook, it asked if I wanted it to convert them to the format best suited for the nook, and did everything like it should.

Now it’s time for the big test, actually reading books on it. I’ll make another post with updates.

UPDATE(3/8/2010): My nook got broken by a cat, and B&N refuses to work with me to fix it, so at this point, I own a $259+tax paperweight.I will no longer recommend to anyone getting a nook, or shopping at Barnes and Noble ever.

Check your credit card agreement. It might have a theft/loss clause for the first 90 days. They may replace it. Hope that helps!
